Before ordering a motorcycle or scooter number plate in Singapore, check the colour format and lettering dimensions for the position you are replacing. A front plate and rear plate can have different requirements.
This guide refers to LTA OneMotoring’s published vehicle licence plate guidance, checked on 21 October 2026. Use the linked source for the full specifications and special-scheme requirements.
Which colour goes where?
The standard format uses white characters on black. Reflective plates use black characters on white at the front and on yellow at the rear. Yellow is therefore a rear reflective format, not an interchangeable front colour.
Front and rear motorcycle lettering
LTA’s smaller motorcycle option specifies front characters at 35 mm high × 25 mm wide, and rear characters at 50 mm high × 30 mm wide. Both use 5 mm strokes. Spacing and margins also differ; the number plate page includes the comparison table.
Character dimensions are not outside plate dimensions
A character height is only one part of the finished design. The number of characters, spaces, margins and row layout affect the overall width and height. A size quoted for lettering should not be used as the outside dimensions of the plate.
When measuring your available space, record the actual width and height. Add those measurements to your order notes rather than asking for the lettering to be reduced until it fits.
Keep the registration easy to read
LTA requires the number to be clearly displayed and warns against nearby decoration or fittings that interfere with visibility. Treat the plate as vehicle identification. Keep promotional artwork separate from the registration area.
What about classic or vintage motorcycles?
Special registration schemes can have different colours and sealing requirements. The standard plate builder is for standard-registration motorcycles and scooters. Contact Scooter Narcotics with your scheme details before ordering a special-scheme plate.
